Marklund Motorsport to undertake Euro RX title defence with updated Polo and exciting new partners

Swedish rallycross team Marklund Motorsport will begin the defence of its FIA European Rallycross Championship title in Barcelona next month with driver Anton Marklund, using a revised Volkswagen Polo Supercar and supported by exciting new partners.

Double Euro RX Champion and FIA World Rallycross Championship podium-finisher Marklund scored three victories on his way to securing the coveted title in 2017. The 25-year old will again race a Polo Supercar in the competitive five-round series this season, while also competing in the British and Norwegian rounds of World RX, at Silverstone and Hell respectively.

For the defence of its drivers’ crown, triple Euro RX Champions Marklund Motorsport has built a new four-wheel drive, 600 horsepower Polo Supercar at its Boliden workshops in Northern Sweden, based on the 2017 title-winning concept but optimised and fine-tuned to be even more competitive.

Marklund Motorsport’s 2018 campaign will be supported by three new partners that bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the squad. The 2018 Polo will be dressed in main partner BILSTEIN’s iconic blue and yellow colours, while also featuring additional partners Fuchs and Askubal.

“We have had a busy winter this year building a new car that has been created completely by our own competent staff. We had a very good base to start from with the 2017 car, so it’s been a case of fine-tuning and maximising what we had,” said Markland Motorsport Team Principal, Jan Marklund. “It’s very inspiring that we have signed long-term agreements with new partners that bring both strong technical and financial support to the team, and we’re all very excited about working together in the year ahead.”

Driver Anton Marklund will race in rallycross and Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia events in 2018, and is eager to begin the campaign at the first round in Barcelona next month (April 14 – 15). However, he knows the team will face some tough competition as he aims to win a second Supercar crown. “I’ve been following the development of the new car during the winter and I can’t wait until we’re on the start line in Barcelona in three weeks,” he said. “It won’t be easy to defend the title, there are some very fast cars and drivers in Euro RX but we’ll give it our all to be on top come the end of the season.”

As part of the exciting new partnership, Marklund Motorsport will collaborate with BILSTEIN towards creating the ultimate rallycross damper. “We wanted to take on the technical challenges for the shock absorber material and shock absorber system for this extreme sport, so we chose the FIA European Rallycross Championship,” said Martin Flick, Head of Motorsport at BILSTEIN.
